The Far Site - Francesco Marchini
The Far Site is the debut photography book by acclaimed Italian photographer Francesco Marchini, documenting a decade (2008-2018) of life within Rome’s underground graffiti scene. Over these 10 years, Marchini captured intimate moments of a close-knit group of Roman friends who were dedicated to graffiti. However, rather than focusing on the artwork itself, his lens highlights the spaces they occupied and the emotions and spontaneous events that defined their everyday lives.
From abandoned industrial sites and archaeological ruins to train yards and residential squats, Marchini's striking black-and-white photography provides a unique perspective on the intersection of vandalism, urban decay, and the struggles of daily life. Paired with semi-autobiographical fictional writing, "The Far Site" offers readers a deeper, more nuanced view of Rome’s graffiti culture, far beyond its familiar narratives.
